Thank you to everyone who donated to Gabi’s legal fund. It is truly humbling, and we could not be more grateful for everyone who chipped in. Because of your support, we were able to hire a truly badass lawyer. And now, we get to share what she wrote in response to Stuart Adams’ cease-and-desist letter.
The short version: Gabi will not be retracting anything. The longer version walks through each of Adams’ claims, the public records and reporting behind Gabi’s statements, and the extraordinarily high legal bar for a public official alleging defamation.
It also makes one thing very clear: criticism from a private citizen may be embarrassing or unpleasant for a powerful politician but that does not make it defamatory.
We would not normally publish legal correspondence like this. But Adams chose to post his demand publicly on X (initially with Gabi’s home and office addresses visible), and since he made his letter public, we think you should be able to read the response too. So here it is in full:
